What struck me odd about the recent deal between Apple and Best Buy, is the fact that it squashed all those Radio Shack rumors.

The rumors alleged that Apple wanted to help save Radio Shack. It does seem like the store is now a mobile phone carrier shop than anything else. Oh, and the weather radios they try to sell to Floridians. Those that retired and wanted to be warned whenever a rainstorm approached. Other than that, Radio Shack profits have been declining since 2005.

However, the rumor that Radio Shack would become an exclusive retail store (other than Apple store) to sell the iPhone is false. Actually, what kind of rumor was that anyway?

Best Buy, however, managed to swing a deal with Apple to sell the 3G iPhone at all 970 retail stores. While browsing through the Web, I found this article at NewsOXY.com on their latest technology news page as the top story.

"The new 3G iPhone will be one of the hottest gadgets this holiday season. The cell phone lets users connect to the Internet at higher speeds. Best Buy will sell the new mobile phone for 199 to 299 and will require a two-year contract with carrier AT&T Inc."

The two-year contract isn't that bad for a next generation phone that's in the 200 range.

The article goes on to say that Best Buy will sell more than 1 million iPhone handsets this holiday season. That was according to an analyst remark, but somehow I do believe they can pull it off.
